Still watching your videos in June 2024. I am really finding alot of interest in nitro these days but not having a close friend that wants to help is making it tough. But I love seeing g all the different options and different values and cost. I got a gs rqcing r21 pbx2 and it was very cheap 3 needle carb 7 port offroad race engine. With the pipe it was 150!!! Your videos help alot of us still, and you are missed, man! RIP, Mr. Welch! 🙏

Also keep in mind that increasing the compression ratio allows and even requires you to run less nitro methane. RC'rs outside of the U.S. use a lot less nitro methane in their fuel mixes than we do. 0% nitro is actually common.

Is this this motor the Evo3? Also is this just a alpha dragon motor? I have a chance to buy one of these but curious before pulling plug. I was also wanting this motor modded to get more power out of it. Are you recommending leaving it stock?

mostly known for his "Dish" piston tops. Amazing guy and incredible racer too.

Its not the back pressure so to speak, but the tuned pipe reflective soundwave/ pressure at the correct time causing a back force to push back into the cylinder, the fresh air fuel mixture that flew out of the exhaust port and essentially dynamically super charging the engine. The tuned pipe can take many shapes and lengths to achieve a particular rpm bad for power. Thats gas dynamics folks

Has anyone recorded the base settings for the carb? For the lsn and hsn? Just want the settings it came out from the box. Will tune how it is needed after that. Thanks.

You have a double idle! Thats not the way to tune. Your idle gap at .70 is to big. Its not just os engines that run at a .50. Most engines run at .50. Very few engines run well without a double idle at .70. I would bet by the time he got rid of that double idle, the gap was around .50. Do not start with your gap at .70. Always start with a .50. Do you see how long it took him to get rid of that double idle? It’s because he set that gap with a paper clip. Set it at .50, I’m saving you lots of time. He still didn’t have the double idle out all the way and he had to keep closing that idle gap more and more like I said. You can do it in a quarter of the time it took. When your double idle disappears completely and your idle is perfect, it will drop instantly after letting off the the throttle. Thats when your engine is perfectly tuned. Always set the high speed first. See, if you do it the way I said the engine tunes itself. You should be able to sit at idle for 45 seconds to a minute or longer without loading up at all. I have done this a long time. Thats the way a master tuner does it. After your gap is set in the way I told you, you never touch it again. All tuning for the rest of its life will be done through the high and low speed needles after that. Thats how you you do it. Get rid of the double idle completely. Right when that happens, thats where your engine wants to be. From there, its just small adjustments on the high and low.

The thing is most engines are not drivable. O.s. speed square has been good. Long strokes are okay but if its even sligthly too Lean it revs To sky high and drivabilty is gone. No one needs engine that speeds up at end of straight

Back then in the late 90s, and 2000s, what determined what was considered an off road engine and an on road engine, was not only just about ports. For example, what was considered ideal for off road applications were 3 to 6 port, along with it being labeled “Long Stroke” for more bottom end, Less rpm’s on the top of the power band. On road engines were anywhere from 7, 8, and 9 ports, and were labeled “Short Stroke” for less bottom end, and stronger mid to top torque on the top of the rpm powerband for faster top speeds, along with turbo heads for use with Turbo plugs. This was the standard for most Picco engines, and Nova Rossi engines, which included the other line up of Nova Rossi engines under the names of TOP, REX, RB Concepts Rody Roem, Collari, JP Racing and so on. Picco also heavily marketed their line of carb that they introduced around 1996 called the Torque Carb, which was a pain in the ass to adjust, and we’re notorious for air leaks around the base of the carb.

I just got one first engine for new tekno nt48.20. Hopefully it’s good little engine for me. You fox and mod them. Got a website in case I need some work done to it
